Tips for a barcode that scans well
- Size: 100% is about 37 × 26 mm. Don't go below 80%; 100 to 120% is safer.
- Colour: dark bars on a light background. Red or brown bars are invisible to scanners.
- Quiet zone: keep a white margin to the left and right of the bars. The download already includes it.
- Height: don't shorten the bars, it makes scanning harder.
- Placement: not over a fold, seam or edge of the packaging.
For print use the SVG file: it stays sharp at any size. For a label printer, a 300 dpi PNG is usually fine.
FAQ
Can I make a barcode for any number?
Creating the image is always possible, but only use numbers issued for your products. Otherwise the number may already belong to another product.
Which format should I choose?
SVG for design software and print, PNG for a label printer or Word.
Why does the tool add a digit?
If you enter 12 digits for an EAN-13, we calculate the check digit for you. If you enter 13, we check that it is correct.
